Salomón Maawad Velásquez
Nació en Oaxaca, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Inició sus estudios de música en el año de 1973 cursando Ia carrera de clarinetista concertista y participó como miembro de la orquesta sinfónica del Conservatorio Nacional de Música en la Ciudad de México.
En el año de 1978 ingresa a un grupo musical tocando el clarinete y saxofón alto en el cual fue a una gira por más de 18 meses a Sudamérica, Centroamérica y el Caribe visitando países como Brasil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Panamá, Aruba, etc.
A finales de 1979 llegó a San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato formando el primer grupo de Jazz (Los Downbeats) como saxofonista tenor, alto y soprano siendo el pionero de dicho género en el ámbito del jazz en esta ciudad y tal vez en el estado de Guanajuato. El grupo Los Downbeats, cuenta con una trayectoria artística muy amplia, interpretando todos los estilos de jazz como swing, latin jazz, jazz clásico, bebop, cool jazz, free jazz, fusión, etc. En la actualidad, Salomón Maawad se presenta usando su propio nombre, utilizando diferentes formatos en sus presentaciones, desde duetos hasta nonetos y en ocasiones utiliza cuarteto de cuerdas en sus presentaciones. Salomón Maawad cuenta con una larga trayectoria exitosa de 50 años como músico y compositor profesional y por su grupo han pasado mas de cien músicos y cantantes nacionales e internacionales.

Salomón fue co-fundador en 1994 del Festival Internacional de Jazz de San Miguel de Allende, siendo apoyo principal como director musical y músico activo durante 12 años en el cual fue participe en un gran número de presentaciones con los músicos invitados, con nombres como Randy Vincent, Eddie Daniels, Denny Berthiaume, Bob Pierson, Nicol Henry, Tammy Hall, Nora York, Randy Bernsen, Ken Basman, Gabriel Hernandez, Jako Gonzalez, Aaron Cruz, Agustin Bernal, Francisco Lelo De Larrea, Christopher Garcia, Rey David Alexander, Jerry López, Ken Bichel, Michael Manring, Adrian Flores, Victor Monterrubio, Lila Downs, Magos Herrera, Diego Maroto y muchos mas.

Salomón ha participado en un gran número de ocasiones en el Festival Internacional Cervantino evento de renombre internacional así como en otros dentro de la república y teatros como el Teatro Juarez de Guanajuato, Teatro la Ciudad en Ciudad de Mexico y muchos otros mas.

In 1978, he joined a musical group, playing the clarinet and the alto saxophone, which went on tour for more than 18 months to Central America, South America and the Caribbean visiting countries such as Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Panama, Aruba, etc.
Towards the end of 1979, he arrived in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico and formed the first jazz group, The Downbeats, as a tenor, alto and soprano saxophonist, being a pioneer of said genre in the scope of jazz in this city and perhaps in the state of Guanajuato. The Downbeats group has a broad artistic trajectory interpreting all the styles of jazz such as: swing, latin jazz, classical jazz, bebop, cool jazz, free jazz, fusion, etc. Nowadays, Salomon Maawad presents himself using just his name, utilizing different formats in his presentations, from duets to nonets and on occasion he has used a string quartet in his concerts. Salomon has had a successful career for more than 50 years as a professional musician and composer and countless national and international musicians and singers have been guests of his group.

Salomon Maawad was co-founder of the International Jazz Festival of San Miguel de Allende in 1994, being a principal supporter as musical director and as a musician for 12 years.
